The president of the Independence Movement Michel Moawad announced to the people of Zgharta and Lebanon the good news of the initiation of the implementation works for the Al Charnadi and the Alma-Fawwar-Bedawi wastewater collectors.

On his Social Media pages, Moawad said: “After a long wait, we have succeeded, in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy & Water, to accomplish an achievement that we are pleased to offer to the residents of Zgharta-Zawiyat and to all the Lebanese.”

He explained: “After years of follow-up with various ministries and international bodies, and following the accreditation given by the Ministry of Energy & Water in April 2017 regarding the wastewater collectors on the Rachiine river banks, it was found that there were no prior studies conducted on the connected lines coming from the villages around the river, mainly the Al Chardini collector. No prior studies had been done neither by the Ministry of Energy & Water, nor the Council for Development and Reconstruction, or the Union of Municipalities in the Zgharta Caza. Therefore, the Minister of Energy assigned an Engineering studies firm to conduct a study on the 2 following wastewater collectors:
– The Al Charnadi collector on which work had started 3 weeks before, and to which the Kfarhebou-Rachiine line will be connected.
– The Alma-Fawwar-Bedawi collector, on which a study was conducted few months before.”

Moawad continued: “The most important element is that on July 17th 2017, the Minister of Energy & Water issued an order to reserve the funds needed for the execution of the 2 projects, which amount to 2 Million Euro. 160.000 citizens will benefit from these projects. The execution works are starting as soon as the administrative procedures are completed.”

He added: “My congratulations to all the residents in Zgharta-Zawiyat, in particular to those living in the Zgharta city and in the towns of Alma, Haret El Fawwar, Bedawi, Achach, Meriata, Kadiriya, Rachiine, Ardeh, Harf Ardeh and Kfardlakkos!”

Moawad offered his thanks to the Minister of Energy & Water, Cesar Abi Khalil, “who took the initiative to issue the needed decree and save the region, its residents and all its touristic, environmental, agricultural and economic activities.”

He concluded: “I promise our people in Zgharta-Zawiyat that we will continue working with the Rene Moawad Foundation, the municipalities, the Muhafez of the North, the Caemmakam of Zgharta-Zawiyat, civil society organizations (in particular the ‘Youth Campaign for the Protection of the Rachiine river’), along with our partners the donors and the Ministry of Energy & Water, to accomplish the little that remains to ensure the protection of the water sources and eliminate the pollution from the Rachiine river waters. These waters are a vital element for all the inhabitants of the region.”
