Independence Movement leader Michel Moawad urged Wednesday lawmakers to assume their constitutional duty and elect a president to end the two-year-long presidential vacuum.

“All those obstructing or boycotting the presidential vote are responsible for the vacuum,” Moawad tweeted.

“We reject any compromise over the presidential election and demand that all lawmakers and political leaders to assume their national duty to safeguard the republic,” he added.
