Independence Movement leader Michel Moawad praised Thursday the rapprochement between Christian parties and urged them to restore balance under Lebanon’s multi-confessional power sharing system.

“Lebanon is going through a difficult time in light of the recent regional developments, the domestic political vacuum and paralysis in state institutions,” Moawad said following his meeting with former General Michel Aoun at the latter’s residence in Rabieh.

“This tense situation requires dialogue among all factions to mend ties and breathe life into state institutions,” he added.

Moawad stressed that Lebanese factions should seek an agreement on a set of principles to restore balance in power sharing and to face domestic and regional challenges.

The Independence Movement leader also warned that Lebanon has no interest in opposing Arab consensus, urging the Cabinet to mend ties with Saudi Arabia.

Moawad also urged the Cabinet to hold municipal elections within constitutional deadlines.
