Independence Movement leader Michel Moawad said Tuesday that the only way out of the political crisis is through the election of a president.
“The only way out of the ongoing political bickering and conflicting constitutional interpretations is through the election of a president without plunging into a debate over the different interpretations of the national pact,” Moawad said in a tweet.
Moawad stressed that the national pact, which sets a framework for Lebanon’s confessional power sharing system, should not be overlooked only when it comes to Christian demands.
However, he added that within the framework of a democratic state, the constitution should always be prevail.
In another tweet, Moawad argued that the ratification of both financial legislation and a new electoral law are urgent matters.
